As we roll into December, I hope you are finding peace and comfort in the warmth of your home and through the love of your family. This next phase of this pandemic necessitates that we (again) hunker down to protect ourselves and our vulnerable community members, and I know how difficult this is. I hear it every day from worried, tired, and overwhelmed patients. My friends and colleagues are no exception. We have some challenging months ahead, but we’ve been here before, and we can do it again. Remember the strength of your spirit and keep looking for silver linings – I promise, they are there if you are open to seeing them.

When I was in college I studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was a life-changing experience in so many ways. One of the highlights of my experience was learning about “hygge” (pronounced HOO-guh), or “hyggelig” in its adjective form, a Danish concept that truly guides Danish life and culture. Hygge is defined as “a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being.” Doesn’t that sound divine? Several years ago, a book was written about this concept, maybe you even read it. If not, it would make a great holiday read, or a gift for someone who needs more hygge. My wish for you this holiday season is that you seek out all of the hygge in your life. It’s there, and you deserve every cozy ounce of it. Find it, wrap yourself up in it, and let it carry you through to the other side of this tough time.

With that, in the spirit of hygge and giving, I present to you the first annual Swan Integrative Healthy Holiday Gift Guide! I’m so excited! I consulted with all of my health and wellness besties and colleagues and put together this fun list of gift ideas. May it lift your spirits, inspire you, and bring smiles to the faces of the recipients.
